Lower-Literacy Users

Lower-literacy users of the Internet exhibit very different reading behaviors than higher-literacy users of online resources. They plow text rather than scan it and they miss page elements due to a narrower field of view. Understanding how many adult learners read online content can help practitioners offer their students tips and strategies for reading. It also can help content developers create online resources that lower-literacy users will be more apt to read successfully. (6/23/05)
